I do my fair share of cleaning and washing of baby poop stained items, an occupational hazard I guess 🙂 There’s nothing cuter than a newborn baby, all curled up without any clothes on so we can see all of the lovely wrinkles, the fuzz on the shoulders, the little feet peeking out under their rear ends. But a baby without a diaper is going to get something or someone dirty! All my blankets and wraps get washed after each session and I have to remember to pay special attention to the ones that got pooped on. If I can, I try and rinse out the worst of it at the studio, but more often than not, everything gets piled into one of the large laundry bags that I bring home with me after each session.
Generally I have found that rinsing off any solid bits with cold water (not sure if the temperature makes a difference or not) and then spraying the soiled area with something like Max Force Oxy Clean before going into a wash with Tide Free and Gentle works pretty well. I always check to see if the stain is removed before putting items in the dryer, if not I repeat the spray and wash process. But some stains seem more stubborn than others and I’ve been looking for some different options.
After a Google search, I found this blog. How to Remove Baby Poop Stains There are some great suggestions here, but my favorite is the lemon and sunshine. No chemicals, nothing crazy and pretty straightforward if you have access to some outdoor space. This has worked great for me, maybe when the weather gets cooler I’ll try one of the other methods.
